About

We have a vision, that all birthing families feel safe, trusted, and celebrated in their care and that community centered midwifery is available for generations to come. At San Francisco Birth Center, we have been ensuring this choice by way of midwifery before, during and after birth, since 2016. In early 2023, San Francisco Birth Center deepened our commitment to reproductive choice and access by founding the San Francisco Birth Center Foundation (SFBC-F).

It’s quite simple: midwifery care is high-quality, value-based care that saves lives and money. So why shouldn’t everybody be able to make this choice for their family, regardless of the size of their bank account, their sexual orientation, or the color of their skin?

SFBC-F was created to ensure that in the San Francisco Bay Area, all birthing people can have access to a midwife and the personalized care before, during and after birth, that comes with choosing a birth center. Our programs provide a support system for the birth center and the broader field of midwifery that educates and empowers practitioners, honors cultural differences, cares for patients, and invites all community members in.
